It was 9 AM so champagne definitely wasn't an option, but I love that she knew I'd have a Starbucks cup in my hand. Such a simple message was just what I needed! And I love her attitude... to the start of new memories on an unknown road. If that doesn't capture the hum of possibility, I don't know what does!
Memphis, y'all!
Here I am... back in Memphis, TN. Well, to be more specific, Germantown -- a precious town that honestly reminds me a lot of Hilton Head Island. There is certainly a heavy level of hustle and bustle here, but all the buildings are neutral tones just like HHI, giving it the old-world feel of classic (not urban) America. I'm absolutely in love with it!
Excited to be here for the next two weeks, and I've already jumped the biggest hurdle: morning coffee. No, it's not my classic Starbucks routine (nothing will ever replace that), but this home-brewed coffee is definitely serving its purpose.

"Begin anywhere." -John Cage
I couldn't think of a better concept for this first post than John Cage's quote, "Begin anywhere." A very close friend of mine sent the quote my way when I was searching for a defining concept of this blog, and the more I contemplate it, the more I am mesmerized by the thought. There are few things that define my philosophy more accurately than that. I do, indeed, strongly believe in one's ability to begin anywhere.
One of the most fantastic aspects of life is that we are granted beginning after beginning, and I truly believe there is no more empowering or exciting moment than being on the edge of a new adventure. Sometimes those adventures are planned, and sometimes you don't realize it until you're in the middle of something brand new. New travels, new jobs, new chapters, new friendships, new memories... One truly can "begin anywhere."
Starting Sunday, I'll be embarking on a brand new adventure of my own. The best part of it, though, is that within that experience I'll be able to begin... over and over and over. I'll serve as a chapter development consultant for my sorority for one academic year, and during that year I'll serve as a liaison between national headquarters and active members on campuses nationwide.
If you had told me on Bid Day 2006 that I would get a phone call from the national president of the sorority I chose to join after just a few short days of formal recruitment, I wouldn't have believed you. If you had told me that phone call would be to offer me a job with national headquarters, I probably would have laughed. But, after lots of twists and turns along the way, here I am... and I don't think I could be any more excited! Yet again, I get to begin.
In just a few short days, I'll reunite with six of the applicants who were also named 2011-2012 chapter development consultants in Memphis, Tennessee for training. We'll spend two weeks at headquarters training for our year-long adventure, and then we'll proceed to Tucson, Arizona for the 2011 National Convention.
Throughout this blog I'll be telling the many tales that are bound to arise in airports, in taxi cabs, on college campuses... when no one is looking, when everyone is looking... in foreign coffee shops, in hotel rooms... when I miss home, when I find a new one.
The possibilities are endless, and there is no better feeling than that. Let's begin...
